Blinds are replacing curtains in most homes because they are much more functional and easy to use. They provide better privacy, better security, less noise, easier to clean, and better-looking homes. In this article, we will share five top benefits of using blinds that many people find appealing.
It’s no secret that the right window decor can completely change the look of a room. In the past, curtains were typically used by homeowners because they provided a level of privacy and insulation that some people require. However, not everyone needs or appreciates this level of privacy and insulation.
A lot of people still use curtains but blinds are becoming a popular choice due to their many benefits. Here are five reasons why you should switch to blinds instead of curtains.
If you live in a modern home, chances are you already have a smart blind system. This can include intelligent window or window coverings that communicate with each other to automate things like shades and blackout treatments.
Blinds give your home an attractive design with countless options in terms of colors, textures, shapes, and more. In this article, we will talk about five reasons why blinds are replacing curtains in most homes.
Installing blinds is one of the easiest and most effective ways to instantly change the appearance of a room in your home. But why should you choose blinds over other options like curtains? Whether you want to install blinds for practical or aesthetic reasons, here are five key benefits of installing blinds in your home.
Most families now prefer to use blinds rather than curtains. They are more affordable, more durable and often more attractive. Here are five reasons why they’re better than curtains.
5 Reasons Why Window Blinds Are Preferable To Curtains
1. Countless styles, colours and patterns
Blinds come in an endless variety of styles, colours and patterns, allowing you to create the perfect look for your kitchen, living room or bathroom. You can choose from mini blinds, vertical blinds, Roman blinds, and even cordless blinds that are safer for children and pets and also look very stylish.
2. Blinds are generally cheaper
The production of blinds is less material and time consuming, and installation also takes less time. In 10 to 20 minutes, a professional can insert brackets into a window frame, install the blinds and attach the mechanisms to move the slats, with a total cost ranging from $43 to $94 per window. Plastic blinds lower your material costs, while wood and high-end vinyl blinds increase them. For eight windows, which is roughly the number of two large living areas and two to four bedrooms, the cost of blinds is $345 to $750.
Curtains tend to be more expensive – between $50 and $250 per window or $400 to $2,000 for eight windows – because they require more materials and time to make as well as install. It takes a professional an hour or more to install the brackets over the window, slide the panels onto the rod, hang and secure the rod to the bracket, and then create the curtains in an attractive arrangement. To reduce the cost, you should prefer cotton curtains to linen or silk curtains.
3. Control the incidence of light in the room
Blinds allow you to better control the amount of light entering the room, as you can cover the entire window or just a portion of it, depending on your needs. With some blinds, the slats are so close together that no light can enter at all. This could be ideal for a room where you have a home theatre, or for your bedroom where you don’t want to be woken up by light in the morning.
4. Blinds are easier to clean
Blinds have a hard, smooth surface that can be dusted quickly and easily with a microfiber cloth. To remove dust from both sides of the blinds, close the slats and wipe with a duster from top to bottom or side to side, then rotate the slats 180 degrees and repeat the process in the opposite direction. To remove stubborn dirt and stains, dampen a soft cloth with plain water or a mixture of 25 percent white vinegar and 75 percent water, wipe the front and back of the slats, then use a fresh cloth to dry.
Cleaning curtains is a little more involved. To remove dust, vacuum from top to bottom with a dusting brush attachment. To remove dirt and stains, you’ll need to spray the dirty or stained areas with a mixture of 25 percent white vinegar and 75 percent water, a commercially available stain pretreatment solution (such as Shout Advanced Stain Remover, available on Amazon) or (for mildew) a solution of one part bleach and four parts water. Let the solution sit for a few minutes, then machine washes one or two curtain panels at a time according to the care label and let them air dry to prevent shrinkage. If necessary, iron according to instructions.
5. Blinds last longer
It is not uncommon for well-maintained blinds to retain their appearance for 15 years or more. The synthetic material of blinds, whether plastic, vinyl, aluminium or polymer-coated wood, makes them resistant to discolouration and stains. They are also sturdier and more durable than curtains, making them less susceptible to daily wear and tear. Fabric curtains, whether made of cotton, linen, velvet or silk, are more prone to tears, stains and mildew, so they often need to be replaced within a decade.
6. Wide choice of materials
The variety of materials from which blinds are made, allows you to choose the blind that best suits you both in price and style. For example, if your living room is furnished with wooden furniture, you can complement the room with wooden blinds. However, if wooden blinds are too expensive for you, you can opt for imitation wood blinds instead to keep the cost down. Then you have a choice of plastic blinds, bamboo blinds, aluminium blinds and other materials to ensure that you always find the right blinds for every room in your home.
7. Enjoy absolute privacy
Blinds offer you a level of privacy that you can’t achieve with many other options like curtains. For the ultimate privacy control, consider installing top-down blinds. This allows you to lower the blinds from the top, allowing natural light to enter, but still giving you as much privacy as you need.
